Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion OTEC is a technically feasible clean energy production method. It is basicly a Rankine cycle of Ammonia. The difference between deep ocean cold water temperature and hot sea surface water temperature must be at least 20 degrees Celsius to be able to make the plant work. There are some working plants and electric production history of some research and education foundations in the world. The main challenges are capital costs, the deficiency of long service life large diameter piping to meet the required high volume 4 degrees Celsius cold water flow from 1200 metres deep ocean up to around sea surface level to build continuously growing with higher capacity new projects. I am a retired marine engineer and captain who took ship construction engineering lessons in college. I have several projects which will make people learn how to build OTEC projects for colossal amounts of clean energy. We can also install air compressors on OTEC platforms to dump CO2 into 400 metres deep ocean to help clean atmosphere. CO2 can dissolve in water, other atmospheric gases like Nitrogen and Oxygen goes up to sea surface and into air immediately. But CO2 stay in ocean depth for many years. A considerable part of this CO2 will be eliminated by conversion to sediments. Side effect of CO2 is an increase of acidification of oceans. But some part of this CO2 is consumed by marine weeds and alga while photosynthesis. Ammonia also as a land based powerplant fuel, can be produced and shipped overseas by these OTEC platforms among other options. I am ready with economical and practical OTEC construction projects.
